The project “Warm Data Labs in the Net-Zero Pilot District” is based on a deep systemic understanding of the connection between our habitat, social justice, and climate change. Inspired by Nora Bateson and the integration of indigenous knowledge and systems science, they offer a model for the active involvement of residents in designing climate-friendly housing solutions. Lab participants learn how global ecological crises have a direct impact on their living space and what role they can play in the transformation towards a more sustainable future.

The workshops are based on scientific findings and aim to provide people with a new understanding of values to mediate. By promoting emotional intelligence and the social learning The labs create a space in which participants can gain deeper insights into the relationship with their living environment. The format aims not only to combat symptoms, but also the root causes of climate change to understand and address.

The labs should be a starting point for a more comprehensive transformation: The workshops will be followed by joint projects to develop sustainable housing models and improve urban infrastructure. As shown in the annex, the labs follow a clear roadmap, which promotes relationships, cognitive abilities, and collaboration to enable collective action. In a later step, WDL will be scaled up in community centers (GZ) in Zurich to promote cooperation and participation in the city.
