Energy Communities - More for You, Security for Switzerland

How can local energy communities enable broad participation in the energy transition and help build a resilient Switzerland?

Energy communities are often understood as a technical solution for sharing renewable energy. However, their real transformative potential also lies in social innovation. They can make the energy transition visible and tangible in everyday life: through participation, inclusion, and new forms of local cooperation.

Today, however, governance models, stakeholder roles, and expectations often do not align smoothly. This Mission seeks radical ideas that combine technical efficiency with social added value and 1) make the establishment and operation of energy communities in urban areas simple and attractive for many people and groups; and 2) with a view to framework conditions, governance, and financing models, ensure that energy communities become a permanent part of a resilient, participatory Swiss energy system.

Timeline

Challenge Stage | Phase 1 - Call for Challenges

Problem Exploration

We conduct interviews, gather online input, and host short workshops to jointly identify the core challenges within the Missions. For this, we bring together people and experiences from practice, research, and administration. The goal is to build a shared understanding of the problem and to formulate clear challenges as the starting point for solution development.

You can participate in two ways. Either attend a workshop or complete the following form.

Challenge Exploration „Energy Communities“

How can we create energy communities that not only function technically, but also have social support and involve as many people as possible in the energy transition?

As part of the FUS Challenge Exploration, we are delving deeper into the topic of energy communities, building on previous findings and current developments in the field of local energy solutions. The focus is on social innovations that enable participation, distribute responsibility fairly and anchor energy communities in everyday life, particularly where governance, trust, access and cooperation between the public sector, the market and civil society are concerned.
