People are living longer, households are becoming smaller, and more generations than ever are sharing the same cities and neighbourhoods. But living side by side is not the same as living well together.
Different generations have different needs, rhythms and resources, from housing and care to mobility, public space and participation. These needs are often addressed separately. We want to explore how they can be connected more systematically and create value across generations, answering the question: How can we live well together across generations in a changing city?
We are looking for social innovations that make intergenerational living work better in everyday life: rethinking how we use housing, how neighbourhoods support everyday life, how public spaces bring people together, or how new forms of cooperation, financing and organisation make solutions last over time. The most promising ideas may be those that connect several of these dimensions instead of treating them separately.

Before looking for solutions, we want to understand the key opportunities and barriers. Together with experts from practice, research, public administration, economy and civil society, we want to build a shared understanding of the problem and formulate a set of clear, actionable challenges that can become the starting point for new solutions.
There are two ways to contribute to shaping the challenge: you can register your interest in joining an online Challenge Exploration Workshop, or already share your input through this form.
Take part and you can submit. Participating in one of the workshops qualifies you to submit a project idea and thus to apply for funding of up to CHF 22,500. So come along, even if your idea isn't finished yet.
In the Ideation Workshop we develop first solution approaches from the challenges of the “City of Generations” mission. We bring together people from practice, research, public administration, business and civil society, test and connect ideas and support the formation of new teams. The goal is a robust project idea for the Call for Ideas 2027.
